ESTATES AVENUE RENOVATION
MAKING AN ENTRY
This home was completely transformed by relocating the front entry from a dark, narrow side yard to the highly visible and open side of the property. With graphic tile, a custom metal gate and bold landscaping, the entry is now dramatic and identifiable. A full-wall glass pivot-door emerges into view and acts as a counterpoint to the opposite bay view and celebrates it as people come and go. The kitchen was moved to a central location within the house, open to multiple rooms and to the new outdoor terrace. The existing living room and study were opened to the new terrace with full walls of folding doors. Natural light sneaks its way into the home through skylight shafts and is modulated through interior screen walls. Modern interventions are woven into the materials of the home, salvaging and refurbishing elements such as the paneling and the study area fireplace, while editing and simplifying in order to find a more cohesive aesthetic for the house.
