HERE’S HOW BAR

Located across from the iconic Fox Theater in Oakland, this Uptown hangout offers craft cocktails in an accessible and unpretentious environment. Award-winning mixologist and owner Jennifer Colliau — an Oakland native — helped infuse the space with materials and forms that reflect the surroundings. A contempo-noir aesthetic complements a glassed-in prep room where house-made syrup paraphernalia and an ice-cutting bandsaw are on display. A warm neighborhood vibe is expressed through the original hardwood floors, a zinc bar, and shades of burgundy and amber that echo the hues of the bar’s famous namesake cocktail. Painted wood slats  overhead, inspired by nearby topography, are softly lit to mimic the undulating layers of the Bay Area hills at dusk, while also allowing glimpses of the existing industrial ceiling.
